2010 Walk On! Challenge for Fifth-Graders

Overview

The 2010 Walk On! Challenge is challenging fifth-graders across Arizona to exercise for 60 minutes per day each day during the month of February. The goal is to inform kids about the benefits of exercise and inspire them to get moving for at least 60 minutes every day.

To do it, we need help from teachers like you. The Walk On! program is implemented in fifth-grade classrooms and relies upon the influence of teachers.

To support the Challenge, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona supplies an interactive brochure filled with tips for getting 60 minutes of exercise, along with a collection of resources online.

New to the Challenge this year, kids will be tracking the minutes they exercise instead of the steps they take. This change will give more of them the chance to participate doing the activities they love most.

And a little incentive always helps. During the Walk On! Challenge, fifth-grade students will track how much exercise they get and work toward prizes such as 40 iPod® shuffles and five Wii™ Fit consoles. And every fifth-grader who completes the Challenge will receive a popular drawstring backpack.

Fifth-grade teachers who implement Walk On! and the schools that support them have a chance to win a $5,000 grant to be used to further impact the childhood obesity level at their school and in Arizona. Click Here for more information about grants selection criteria.
